Hey there, I'm Stephen McHugh, a proud resident of Manchester, UK. I’m someone who connects deeply with language, especially metaphors, idioms, and the images they can create. As an autistic writer and creator, I use these expressions to bring my lived experiences to life in ways that feel vivid, gentle, and relatable. My blog and YouTube channel explore how language can bridge understanding, make emotions more accessible, and offer new ways to describe the moments that can often go unseen.
Over time, I’ve found that I'm drawn to metaphors and idioms because they invite reflection. For me they help us frame thoughts, feelings, and sensory experiences in a way that feels meaningful. My goal is to share these perspectives honestly and calmly, creating a space where others can recognise parts of their own journeys in the words, stories, and imagery I create.
Outside of writing, I’m someone who finds inspiration in quiet moments. I enjoy peaceful walks and runs. These include my weekly parkruns, along with spending time under the stars, and exploring the fascinating worlds of science and numbers. Music is another source of calm for me, whether I’m listening or playing the piano. I’m often thinking, observing the world in small details, exploring language, and collecting ideas for future stories. I also love photographing nature and weather, capturing the moods and metaphors hidden in everyday scenes.
Whether you’re here to explore language, learn through lived experience, or simply enjoy the stories and reflections, thank you for being here. I hope my work offers a moment of understanding, curiosity, or calm in your day.
