In this episode of my podcast, I take you through my heartfelt journey back into the world of running. The episode, titled "Rediscovering the Joy of Running: A Journey Back to Passion and Resilience," is a deep dive into how reconnecting with an old passion can add some purpose to one's life. From the simple joys of being out in nature to the structured training that has helped me build resilience and boost my confidence, running has become an important part of my weekly routine.
During my teenage years, I remember running was a seasonal activity for me, mostly limited to the warmer months of summer. Back then, my involvement with the local running club was sporadic, as other priorities like education and work began to take priority. As the years went by, I explored other sports like swimming and golf. However, a few months ago, I felt a renewed urge to take up running again, seeing it as more than just a form of exercise. Running has now become a way to connect with nature, build resilience, and enhance my overall well-being.
One of the significant aspects I discuss in this episode is my structured training week. My routine includes slow-paced runs on Tuesdays, hill training on Thursdays, and exhilarating 5k park runs on Saturdays. Each type of run serves a unique purpose, from building endurance and strength to providing a sense of community and achievement. I also share the tools that keep me motivated, such as inspirational YouTube channels and the Strava App, which meticulously logs my progress.
One of the most exciting parts of my running journey has been breaking my sub-25 minute 5k barrier. Achieving this milestone was not just a physical accomplishment but also a mental victory. It reinforced the idea that setting realistic targets and consistently working towards them can yield significant results. I hope that my story will inspire others to set their own goals and pursue them with dedication.

For those new to running or looking to get back into it, I offer practical tips on preparing for runs. These include doing basic warm-ups and stretches to reduce the risk of injury and maintaining a balanced diet to fuel your body effectively. I also emphasise the importance of listening to your body and not pushing yourself too hard, as this can lead to injuries.
Running has also given me a new perspective on resilience and confidence. The challenges I face during runs often mirror the difficulties I encounter in everyday life. Overcoming these challenges has helped me build mental strength, which translates into other areas of my life, such as my language development and personal growth. This holistic approach to running makes it a transformative experience, one that I am excited to continue.
Another aspect I touch upon is the sense of community that comes with participating in park runs. These events are free of charge and open to everyone, regardless of their running ability. The volunteers who help organise these events play a crucial role in keeping them going, and I express my gratitude for their efforts. Being part of a community that shares a common interest in running has been incredibly fulfilling.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue setting realistic targets to keep myself motivated. My next goal is to achieve a sub-23 minute 5k run. This approach of breaking down larger goals into more manageable steps has been effective in keeping me focused and progressing without feeling overwhelmed.
In terms of running gear, I mention the importance of comfortable trainers and appropriate clothing. While I haven't yet experienced running in the rain, I understand the value of a lightweight running jacket in the event of such conditions. Finding the right gear can make a significant difference in your running experience, and I recommend checking out options on platforms like Amazon.
In conclusion, running has been a transformative experience for me, helping me build resilience and gain more confidence in myself. It's a journey that I am excited to continue, and I hope my story inspires more of you to take up running and experience its benefits. Remember, the key is to set realistic targets, be consistent, and most importantly, enjoy the process.
