Hello again, I know it’s been a while since my last post, partly due to the Christmas and New Year celebrations. I hope you had a good and safe time over the festive period.
In addition, I have been devoting more time to other tasks and creative things, including planning a podcast in relation to this website.
For the podcast, I’ve had to get artwork done along with getting music done to be used for the intros and outros. So far, I’ve recorded three episodes including an introductory one, and the other two about how to recognise signs of autism in the family and in children in the school environment. I'm in the final stages of editing them now.
In addition, I’m working on creating a newsletter for my website which you will receive once every two weeks if you choose to sign up to it.
In case you don’t know or have forgotten, I sell sports clothes and footwear on ebay, and have devoted more time to that this week (the week commencing Monday 23rd January), especially as there has been a spike in sales recently along with some buyer enquiries. I feel this has helped me to develop and have more confidence in my communication skills.
How to feel good about yourself
Doing certain things successfully that you may have previously considered difficult tasks can give you a sense of achievement. In addition you can feel more confident about progressing further with them and other things too.
I have managed to cook fish and shepherd's pies, and chicken and roast potatoes. Recipes which I considered to be more difficult as there is more to see to during the cooking processes.
Cooking has been a new interest of mine for some time now, and which I now believe I feel more confident about doing. There is a post on my website regarding a number of recipes I’ve learned.
Once I felt I’d mastered easier recipes I wanted to challenge myself with more demanding ones such as the ones mentioned above.
There are times when I have been fearful of making mistakes. The way I look at cooking is by comparing it to doing science experiments. Science is another subject of great interest to me. The way I look at any mistakes in cooking is to see them as a form of experimentation, and what could be done differently next time. This helps me to be less fearful of mistakes.
Whenever you feel you aren't doing well at something, just think about the things you're good at and any significant obstacles you may have overcome in the process.
And finally
I have plans to put together an ebook about what helped me to overcome obstacles during my school and education days. But that is for another time, so keep an eye out for that on the website. Best to concentrate on one task at a time.
In the meantime, I hope you can take the time to continue to delve deeper into my website, explore and enjoy more of my blog posts. If you, a loved one or a friend has autism, I hope you or they can find tips to overcome obstacles and have brighter futures.
Have you done or achieved anything worthwhile that’s helped you to feel better and more confident about yourself? Why not let me know in the comments section below.

It’s that time of the year again when the new academic year starts at school. And this can lead to mixed feelings for neurodiverse children, including those with autism.
